You said you had to run from this place as stale as us When I read the words you wanted back, the words that said something more than just the places you had seen or people you'd met along the way and that you were off today, to see the light fall across Athens, GA. They said you knew I'd stay, said you already knew anyway. As you wrote down the words and eyed the times, were you looking back at all the ghosts and shells and dreams and wells filled with dimes better spent on lies. And babe you knew I'd lie and babe you knew I'd lied But from this stationary point that I might try to see the distance you have covered and all your reasons why, a map made of you stretching land and time to show a place that I might find a place that I might find a place that I might find.

So I couldn't see you, it's not the worst it could be. Tomorrow will start and the day will end so what does it matter if I don't see people and they don't see me 'cause what's the use in seeing when gray's the only color you see. Show me sun light. Show me a street light. Show me something, 'cause this view is killing me. Show me your kindness, if to show me a weakness, just show me something 'cause I know you and you're losing me.

It's a long ride on the 32 crossing Main St to decide my way. I watched the sun die and everything is dying like I feel trapped inside this day. I walked ten minutes with my face in freezing wind and shaking hands to guide my head. And I thought of you this morning as you read your paper and joked of the matters of this place we find ourselves stuck in. As the illustrated man floated around my head and laughed at my barren skin. It's a long ride on the 32 crossing these faceless streets, dead by any other name. So I'll get off here in the middle of nowhere, lost and I'll find myself tracing steps I've already been in. Leading me through the darkening skies with nothing but home on my mind and no sense of its place in this night.

Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are gray skies and other people telling me that soon they'll go away Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are doll people hiding their subconscious faces behind a mask of self-conscious paint Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are happy people in their cars driving to their happy homes, while friends become just neighbors moving further and further away Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are grass lawns growing so fast and so green to shift our eyes from the dying trees Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are $500 phones giving people directions to a place just across the street, on their own street. Yeah happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream 'Cause all I see are gray skies and other people shoving me and saying that I too should believe that happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream Happiness is a dream
